A Story behind a Story!

Updated: May 22, 2023

While everyone is born with basic survival skills, more is needed to thrive in our fast-growing modern world. Education plays a crucial role in honing our skills and abilities. Although many countries have made significant progress in achieving full literacy, challenges persist in several nations, including India. Although the Indian government strives to address this issue, factors such as overpopulation, linguistic diversity, and the preservation of ancient civilizations make it impractical to shoulder the entire burden alone. There are still remote areas within the country that lack access to essential educational facilities.

In the face of this situation, many charitable nonprofit organizations are stepping up to bridge the gap and bring education to rural populations. Education is considered to be the most potent weapon capable of transforming the world. In India, where 70% of the population resides in rural areas, empowering these communities with knowledge-building tools becomes paramount in the pursuit of national development. Ekal Vidyalaya is a remarkable nonprofit organization dedicated to providing basic education to every child in rural India while also nurturing holistic community growth.

To gain deeper insights into this cause, visit their website: https://www.ekal.org/us. In essence, Ekal operates in the most remote rural regions, where government facilities remain absent within a five-mile radius. Its primary focus is on providing education and skills training in tailoring, computers, organic farming, eShiksha, and running preventive arogya programs.

Typically reliant on the generosity of donors, nonprofit organizations play a pivotal role in these endeavors. Recently, during the "Maa Tujhe Salaam" fundraising event hosted by the Boston chapter on May 13th, I along with my creative composer, Chidananda Lipun Das and filmmaker, Rajesh Ranjan Mohanty took this opportunity to show our support for Ekal's cause. Lipun and Rajesh found further talents, a perfect singer, Prativa Pradhan and actors, Lipika Parida, Guduli, and Narendra Senapati for lead roles. The kids from the village gladly participated to act in the film. Apart from them, many others (listed in the song details) behind the camera helped in making the track and shooting. This talented team from Odisha produced a poignant musical film with my Hindi lyrics, that encapsulate the essence of Ekal's mission while embracing the event's title as a hook line for the song. This powerful composition resonates not only with Ekal but also with anyone who understands the profound impact education holds in community building.

The film beautifully narrates a father's dream for his daughter to attend school, ultimately leading her to become a teacher. As we weave this heartwarming story, we incorporate glimpses from real Ekal schools across diverse regions in India. Watch this touching video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0I0qj80bsw. Your feedback on the video would be highly appreciated.

It is important to highlight Ekal's emphasis on educating girls, as educating one girl has the potential to impact future generations. Notably, a significant number of teachers at Ekal are female. To grasp the magnitude of their impact, take a glance at their achievements here: https://www.ekal.org/primary-schools/.

By shedding light on the story behind this cause, I aim to inspire collective action toward empowering rural education. Together, we can unlock the immense potential hidden within these communities and pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive future.
